Grease Noise Tester
This instrument is used to test the lubrication integrity of greases. The use
of clean lubricants is essential for obtaining long bearing life. Many
factors affect the degree of cleanliness of greases during normal operation
but a clean grease for initial lubrication as well as re-lubrication is
essential to ensure machine longevity. In applications where bearing fatigue
life is not critical (i.e. - low operating loads), clean grease is still essential
to ensure low bearing noise required for many electric motor applications.
Therefore, the grease noise tester is an invaluable tool to determine quiet
running characteristics of various grease lubricants. Our grease noise tester
has two major advantages over other noise testers:
1. Provides a quantitative assessment of the noise characteristics of the
grease
2. Provides the tools and resources for fast and reliable analysis
Quantitative Assessment
The grease noise tester is able to measure the specific distrubance caused by
the rolling of particulate, called vibration peaks. The tester contains a
proprietary Peak Detection Algorithm which enables these vibration peaks to
be singled out from the total bearing vibration signal. The number of vibration
peaks detected, as well as their intensity, can be evaluated to determine a
quantitative value for quiet running behavior of the bearing. Furthermore,
the tester can perform "grease damping ability" which allows for a
direct comparison between the running of a dry bearing vs. the running of a
lubricated bearing.
Fast and Reliable Analysis
The grease noise tester is semi-automated and is designed to allow for proper
testing while minimizing the risk of outside contamination of the test grease
lubricant. This is done through computer-controlled grease dosages and peak
measurements on a single test bearing of special low noise quality. The
operator simply mounts the test bearing and test grease syringe into the
tester, programs the test parameters into the computer, and starts the test.
The test results can be monitored, recorded, and evaluated on a PC with the
provided data acquisition software package.
